Welcome to NAM 2009

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 54th Nordic Work Environment Meeting (Nordiska arbetsmiljömötet), NAM 2009, to be held 31 August – 2 September 2009 in Espoo, Finland.

The meeting plays an important role in disseminating information, in promoting training, and general discussions, and in providing networking opportunities for Nordic scientists and experts. The similatities of the Nordic countries offer possibilities for new and interesting research settings, enabling joint promotion of important issues to the EU with a greater potential impact than each country alone.

The main topic areas in 2009 include work life participation, current workplace hazards, and evidence-based practices.  The scientific programme will consist of keynote lectures, free oral presentations and poster presentations. In addition, a NIVA Workshop on Occupational Health and Alcohol: Prevention of alcohol-related harm at workplaces will be arranged. This workshop will introduce successful approaches and methods for intervention on and prevention of excessive alcohol consumption at the workplace.

A panel discussion with the Directors of the Nordic occupational health and safety institutes will take place to discuss the future challenges and impacts of occupational health and safety research - this is your chance to voice your concerns directly to the panel. Send your question that have occupied your mind beforehand to mia.latta(at)ttl.fi.

The importance of implementing research results into practice cannot be underestimated, and this is especially true in the challenging times we are currently experiencing. Therefore, the aim of the meeting is not only to summarize the most recent information and knowledge regarding occupational health and safety, or to promote discussion on current topics within the field, but also to discuss methods for implementing and disseminating this important knowledge. The programme also includes a common session for information officers and researchers as communication between them is essential.

We anticipate an exciting, active and productive meeting and look forward to seeing you in Espoo in August 2009!
