Centres of Expertise

The Centres of Expertise constitute the basic structure of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH). Their purpose is to ensure that we attain our strategic targets. Centres of Expertise consist of Teams, Themes, Action Programmes and Units of Excellence.

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health has six Centres of Expertise:

Teams are appointed to address a specific work life problem or to serve a customer group that is central in the development of occupational health and safety. In addition, teams at regional offices are responsible for ensuring nationwide access to occupational health and safety development services.

Themes are intended to generate social innovations for the needs of work life in Finland. The basic features of themes include laying the scientific groundwork for innovations, planning the introduction of innovations to work life and supporting partners in the dissemination of innovations.

Action Programmes are the vehicles through which the FIOH addresses topical problems that are of key importance to work life in Finland. They are also used to anticipate and prevent the emergence of new problems.

Units of Excellence engage in top-level international research in carefully focused areas for the purpose of generating scientific innovations. At the same time, the units create partnerships, channels and visions in the international scientific community to support the work of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.
