It is important to protect the health, work and functional capacity of young people. Young people must be provided with skills and readiness for coping with work life. The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health collaborates with occupational health services, occupational safety organisations, homes and schools for the benefit of young people.
In order to combine ageing and work in a successful manner we need measures directed at the individual, enterprises and other organizations, and at the whole society. Each of these actors has its own goals and the means to achieve them. It is necessary to understand and combine them if we wish to ensure the maintenance and development of the welfare society in the face of the rapidly changing age structure.
These pages on 'Ageing and work' describe the viewpoints of both individuals, enterprises, and the entire society. The challenges and means of individuals and enterprises are closely related. There is an abundance of 'good practices' which encourage us to take action for the improvement of the work environment and the workers' health.
