Occupational diseases

In this context ‘occupational diseases’ are diseases:
• whose primary cause is a physical, chemical or biological factor at the workplace
• that are eligible for compensation as occupational diseases, as stipulated in Finnish occupational disease legislation.

In Finland, the delineation between occupational diseases and other work-related diseases is flexible and, if necessary, it can be changed on the basis of solid scientific proof. The delineation varies from country to country because the concept of occupational disease also depends on the applicable laws and compensation practice for each country.
