Promotion of work ability

The term ‘workplace health promotion’ (WHP) refers to joint measures taken by employers, employees and workplace organizations in order to promote and support the work ability and functioning capabilities of all workers at every stage of their career.

Employee work ability is assessed by proportioning their resources to the demands of their work. These resources consist of health and work ability, training and skills, values and attitudes, and motivation and job satisfaction. Any need to increase a person’s resources depends on the physical and mental requirements of the work, the work environment and the work community.

Sustained expert WHP activities help people to cope at work, maintain their work ability, and prevent disabilities. It also improves the profitability and efficiency of companies in a sustainable manner.
