In the European Union, FIOH participates in various advisory bodies and expert and standardization work groups. It conducts risk assessment of chemicals, implements various projects such as research framework projects, and actively contributes to various networks.
In addition, FIOH is involved in joint projects with both the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions in Dublin (Eurofound) and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work in Bilbao.
We have actively participated in the Topic Centre activity of the Bilbao Agency. A large Topic Centre, Occupational Safety and Health, now continues this work under FIOH's co-ordination, in which 20 institutions from various European countries take part. Our activities with the Bilbao Agency complement our task of supporting the maintenance and updating of the Finnish internet pages of the Agency.
We have implemented several large safety assessments of chemicals regarding REACH legislation for international enterprises and consortia.
In 2009, FIOH was home to 27 EU projects of different sizes, seven of which were co-ordinations
