You can search using one or more words, or a search phrase. By default, the search automatically uses the "AND" operator in between the search words: you do not need to write the AND word between the search words. In practice, this means that the search attempts to find the pages that contain all the search words.
If you wish to search using a whole phrase, use quotation marks around the words. You can also combine phrases and single search words; e.g. "African Newsletter" stress. This search finds all the files containing the phrase African Newsletter as well as the word stress.
You can also define the search to cover only specific file types such as Microsoft Word files, PDF files, and/or Excel files and so on. You can do this by choosing the desired file type from the drop down menu. Furthermore you can define the search by document type and/or by the date that it was modified or created.
Too many search results:
Common words such as work and health used by themselves will give a large number of results. If possible, use a search phrase or several words together.
Upper case and lower case
The search does not make any differentiate upper or lower cases, i.e. the search words stress and STRESS give you exactly the same results.
If the search engine does not find any results:
Try to search again with a synonym or related word/words. If you used a phrase, try with single words.
Use the asterisk symbol * to truncate words
The so-called wild card search. If you are not entirely sure about the spelling or the terminology, you can use the star symbol to indicate a truncated word. Using biomon* will find all the pages that have words starting with those letters, e.g. biomonitoring.
