Career management – support in various career phases

The “Successful entry into work life” service provides workplaces with tools to support young employees’ commitment and work ability. The tools are designed to be used by HR, supervisors, and young employees.

Why is successful commitment to work important?

Successful commitment to work means that 

• the work of the young employee goes smoothly 
• the young employee understands the expectations and responsibilities associated with their work 
• the young employee acts as a full member of the work community 
• the young employee is able to use their strengths in their work.

The “Successful entry into work life” service consists of three modules

1. Needs assessment for workplaces

The needs assessment provides information on young employees’ current situation and related development needs. The assessment can focus, for example, on topics related to young people's learning at work, work performance, work life skills, or well-being at work. 

The service includes the interpretation of results, feedback, and debriefing meetings, as well as development proposals.

2. Supervisor coaching

Supervisor coaching promotes supervisors' ability to guide and motivate young people and develops supervisors' interaction skills.

3. Group coaching for young employees

Group coaching based on research evidence helps young people to have a smooth start to their careers. The coaching helps young people to recognise their strengths, define meaningful goals for work life, and learn ways to achieve them. 

They also practise solving problems related to the start of a career and dealing with the stress of adversity.

Who is the service for?

The service is especially suitable for HR, supervisors, and employees under 30 years of age. 

HR professionals will be provided with information on young employees’ current level of commitment to their work and their development needs. 

Supervisors get practical operational models for guiding and supporting young employees in the early stages of their careers, new perspectives and effective operational methods for supervisory work, and peer support from other supervisors. 

Group coaching is suitable for all young employees. The coaching promotes a goal-oriented approach to work and career, identifying personal strengths and work ability. 

The “Work-life balance” service consists of tools that help in reconciling work with life outside it. Successful reconciliation of work with life outside work improves well-being at work and thus the results of work.

Reconciling work with life outside work is an experience in finding ways in which work fits together with the rest of your life. At best, they can both act as resources for the other. Promoting work-life balance is a good way to improve employees’ well-being at work.

The “Work-life balance” service consists of three modules 

The service has been developed in co-operation with workplaces. It is based on our extensive experience with methods that promote career management and the development of work communities. The modules can be implemented as a development process or as individual modules.

1. Personnel survey 

A personnel survey is used to identify the baseline and needs for work-life balance. The survey can be carried out as part of an existing personnel survey. We have access to extensive comparative data from other Finnish workplaces to help in interpreting the results. The service always includes feedback and debriefing meetings for management and personnel. 

2. Supervisor coaching 

Supervisors play a key role in making use of practices related to work-life balance and fostering a positive culture. The coaching develops the supervisors' communication skills and enables them to better utilise the practices of the workplace. The total duration of the coaching is approximately nine hours. The coaching can be arranged internally or for a group of people from several workplaces. 

3. Peer group coaching 

Peer groups enable us to provide support for the well-being and careers of people in challenging situations. Challenging life situations can include caring for a loved one in addition to work, being a single parent, or returning from family leave to work life. 

Who is the “Work-life balance” service for?

The service is especially suitable for supervisors and professionals in occupational health care and personnel development. They will be provided with practical methods for providing support to personnel in reconciling work and life. Peer groups are suitable for anyone who feels they need support for work-life balance.

Towards Successful Seniority® is group coaching conducted at workplaces aimed at maintaining work ability and increasing work-related motivation. The coaching is intended for those in the middle of their working careers.

The coaching increases the employee’s self-management in planning their career. It is suitable for workplaces that want to invest in maintaining work ability in an employee-oriented manner. 

From the point of view of work ability and well-being at work, it is important that the employee's skills and goals match the requirements and opportunities of the job. The coaching includes group meetings in which participants can reflect on their career situation and make future plans with the support of the group.

Constant change requires motivation and a readiness for the development of work, as well as self-development.  “Work Engagement for Seniority” coaching promotes an older employee's faith in their own competence and provides them with the ability to cope with the challenges of work life.

We provide instructor training in two packages 

1. Towards Successful Seniority™ instructor training 

After the Tuura training, you will be accredited to act as a instructor of the Tuura method. The group coaching is aimed at maintaining employees’ work ability and increasing work-related motivation of people in the middle of their careers. The method improves career management, provides resources, and reduces symptoms of depression, thoughts of premature retirement, and long sickness absences. 

Content and implementation of the coaching 

Instructor training consists of five three-hour online workshops, coaching practice carried out in pairs, and a learning journal. The participant will receive first-hand experience of the power of a peer group, a thorough instructor manual, and the opportunity to join the instructor network. 

 In 2021–2022, the Tuura instructor training is provided free of charge.

2. Work Engagement for Seniority instructor training 

Training as a trainer is particularly worthwhile when the workplace has identified the need to strengthen older employees’ capabilities, work engagement, and ability to cope with the challenges of work life. The peer groups are guided in pairs.  

Content and implementation of the coaching 

The instructor training consists of 2-4 group meetings, after which the participants conduct a training in their own organization and write a learning journal regarding the process. In about six months’ time, one more meeting is held, after which the participants will receive their instructor certificate. The training provides the participants with personal experience in the power of peer groups and a thorough instructor's handbook, which makes it easy to start coaching in their own workplace.
