Coaching and peer support group for freelance professionals in arts, culture and events

People working in the fields of art, culture and events create well-being for society, but who takes care of the well-being of the industry's workers? We are starting a coaching and peer group to support freelance professionals working in art, culture and event industry.
The goal of the coaching and peer group is to support the artists' mental well-being and work ability. The group is intended for professional artists working as freelancers, entrepreneurs or grant recipients. Professional artists of all art fields are welcome, including unemployed or part-time artists. Participation in the group meetings is free of charge.
10 people working as freelancers, entrepreneurs or grant recipients in art, culture and events will be accepted into the group in registration order. Registration starts on August 1, 2024.

Course objectives

The goal of the group meetings is to enhance participants’ wellbeing at work. You will get a chance to reflect and strengthen your professional identity, reflect and develop your ways of working, have discussions with other professionals in a similar situation to your own and widen your professional network. Themes of the coaching and peer support group meetings:
• Wellbeing at work
• Me as a professional
• Work opportunities, income, support systems
• Community and networks, collegiality
• Sustainable career paths


In practice, we will look at information and theoretical background on the themes listed above, discuss, do teamwork and reflect together. There are 6 meetings. In terms of the group's operation, it is important that you can participate in all group meetings. See the schedule below.

All meetings are from 13:00 to 15:30.
Group meetings are held online in Teams.
Senior Specialist Miira Heiniö from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and Artist Expert Katriina Haikala from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland act as instructors of the group.
All participants will be interviewed before the first group meeting. Its goal is to get to know each other, hear about your expectations for the coaching and peer group, and discuss your work and career/career paths.
When participating in the group, you can participate in a study in which we evaluate the effect of group activities on the participants' well-being at work. Participation in the study is voluntary. You can register for the group even if you don't want to participate in the study.
The coaching and peer group is part of the Mental Health Toolkit project, which is part of Finland's Sustainable Growth Program. The partners of the project implemented by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health are the Art Promotion Center Finland, the Center for Cultural Policy Research Cupore, the Finnish Musicians’ Union and the Trade Union for Theatre and Media Finland, Teme.
