Biomonitoring services

The containers and equipment needed for sampling can be ordered using an electronic form. In particular, sample containers for the following analyses should be ordered from us:

• U-MeOH (glass tube with Teflon cap)
• U-N2O, U-Sevo (head-space bottles, sampling to be agreed separately)
• U-TBA (glass tube with Teflon cap)
• U-ISOCYAN, U-MDA (preservative)

Collect blood samples in commercial vacuum tubes according to analysis-specific instructions. It is recommended that specially cleaned urine containers be ordered from us to avoid contamination. Multiple metal analyses may be performed on a single urine sample.

Please fill in the order form carefully

Please fill in the referral carefully to avoid any confusion. Please be particularly careful to enter correctly the name and social security number, as well as the time of terminating work that involves exposure and that of taking the sample. We will deliver the response and the invoice to one address indicated in the referral with the name of the receiver, in accordance with the Business ID.

Pack correctly

Mark the person's name and type of analysis on the sample tubes and bottles clearly. You can use the shipping box that came with the sample tubes for packing the blood and serum tubes. Close the urine sample bottles well and pack each bottle in a separate plastic bag and tie each one shut. In accordance with the instructions of the post office, the packaging must contain a filler which absorbs the liquid in case the container or bottle breaks.

Pack the referral with the sample tubes or bottles in the shipping box (yellow-black) that is mailed directly to the analysing laboratory. Store the samples in the refrigerator until shipping, unless otherwise indicated for the analysis in question.

Sending biomonitoring samples with a payment agreement

We have an arrangement with Posti that allows sending samples

to our laboratory with a payment agreement. Postage is charged together with the analyses

as before, but the client does not have to worry about the postage fees

for shipping.

This new practice

• makes sending samples easier
• and is cheaper for clients, as samples can be sent as a maxi letter with reply mail pricing.

If the sender has an existing mailing agreement, we recommend using that.

Prices

We charge EUR 4.50 per shipment.

We recommend sending shipments that weigh more than 1,000 grams as parcels.

For express shipment, we charge an additional charge of EUR 7.00 per shipment.

Ensure sample preservation

Post the sample so that it will reach the laboratory before the weekend. Keep samples taken at the end of the week in the refrigerator over the weekend and mail them the following Monday. In order to ensure preservation and to speed up the response, it is advisable to send the samples directly to the Helsinki office.

Serums for antibody analyses are delivered directly to the Kuopio office of Work Environment Laboratories (Työterveyslaitos, Työympäristölaboratoriot, 700032 TYÖTERVEYSLAITOS,  visiting address: Neulaniementie 4, Kuopio).
