Young adults as work life sustainability agents
Objectives
The project has two main objectives that support the overarching theme of strengthening shared learning. The aim is to promote:
- the inclusion and agency of young adults and the digital and sustainability measures of workplaces
- the ability of workplaces to identify and utilise young adults’ digital and sustainability competence and fresh insights.
Data and methods
The project mainly applies qualitative methods and co-development models. Previous literature, research interviews, and development workshops are used as data.
The research focuses particularly on young adults who have recently graduated from higher education and who, as a result of their education, have increasingly strong competence in both sustainability and the versatile use of digital technology.
Results and impact
The Young adults as work life sustainability agents project promotes young adults’ agency and well-being at work, as well as organisations' sustainability and digital transition. It is thus linked to the fairly new research area of the development of sustainability and digital competence in work organisations. The knowledge generated in the project on competence development, onboarding phase as a shared learning process, as well as the research-based models for sustainable onboarding can be widely applied to different fields and to the general onboarding processes of all newcomers - not just young adults.
Key outputs:
- A guide to sustainable onboarding of young adults that provides good practices and concrete ways to strengthen the shared learning of young adults and their work community, especially in the context of sustainability and digital competencies
- A systematic literature review that broadly sheds light on the various ways in which work organisations develop their digital and sustainability competencies
